China: Renewables boom leads to falling CO₂ emissions

China's CO₂ emissions have fallen in the last twelve months. For the first time, this was not due to an economic crisis, but to the rapid expansion of renewable energies, as a new analysis shows. Whether the trend continues also depends on the trade war with the USA and the design of Chinese economic stimulus programs.

EVs: Boom in China and the US, stagnation in Europe

E-cars broke new sales records in most countries in the first quarter of 2025. While the markets in China, the USA and the UK grew strongly in 2024 in some cases, sales stagnated or declined in key EU countries, according to a new report by the International Energy Agency (IEA).
