Global Witness: Where the fight for the environment is particularly dangerous

According to the human rights organization Global Witness, at least 196 people were killed worldwide last year because they were working to protect the environment. Most of the murders took place in Colombia. In industrialized countries, the pressure on activists is increasing due to laws and legal proceedings.

Draghi Report: How the EU wants to combine climate action and competitiveness

In a report for the EU Commission, former ECB chief Mario Draghi complains that the EU is falling behind in competition with the USA and China. He sees an opportunity in decarbonization – provided Europe cleverly aligns its policies accordingly. Among other things, Draghi calls for lower energy prices and targeted support for energy-intensive sectors and the automotive industry.
